We are happy that St. Peter’s Engineering college established in the year 1993 has been declared a Demand –to-be- University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Education), Government of India, New Delhi, under Section 3 of the UGC,Act 1956 from 2008-09 onwards in the name and style of St. Peter’s University under the trust , St. Peter’s Institute of Higher Education and Research. St. Peter’s University, Comprising of St. Peter’s Engineering College and sponsor of St. Peters Institute of Higher Education and Research, will continuously strive to focus on imparting quality education, introducting innovative programmes leading to Research and Development for sustainable growth. The University stands for teaching, research and extension services .As a part of this extension service ,distance education programmes are now introduced with the recognition of the Distance Education council (IGNOU)and joint Committee of UGC-AICTE-DEC,New Delhi(Ref: F.No. DEC/SPU/CHN/TN/Recog/14 dated 02 .04 . 2009 and F. No. DEC/Recog/2009/3169/dated 09-09-2009). The philosophy of distance education lines in its openness and flexibility to reach the unreached. Its approaches include self – motivation and self – learning styles. I hope that this distance education programmes will be beneficial to the adult learners, who want to upgrade their knowledge and skill horizontally and vertically n their chosen field. I assure that the student-support system will strengthen the self learning approach of the learners.
